Dorgali
Parco Museo S'Abba Frisca
Description
The S'abba Frisca park and museum, located a short distance from Dorgali and Cala Gonone in the splendid Valle di Littu, is a naturalistic and ethnological museum unique of its kind. Entering through a majestic basaltic stone entrance, the picturesque visitors’ path takes you through the park and museum’s fifteen museum areas.
Water is the dominant feature inside the park, which is filled with fountains, waterfalls and jets fed by the S’Abba Frisca spring. Along the path, you find megalithic battlements, centuries-old trees and hedges, and especially Mediterranean scrub and plants that have played a special role in human civilisation, like medicinal and tinctorial plants.
The ethnographic collection, displayed both indoors and out, includes about 4,500 objects from Barbagia culture, including the cart, plough, donkey mill, equipment for farming, artisan tools and everyday objects. The shepherd’s hut (su cuile), made of basaltic stone and juniper trunks, is of special note.
The park also offers educational workshops and demonstrations, like how to use the donkey mill for grinding grain and how to make carasau bread. Its educational activities are a favourite for school groups of every age range.
