The project

The new portal for the Distretto Culturale del Nuorese was developed to meet the need for representation of the region that is at once both harmonious and complex, putting out the image and essence of a network of organisations that have placed culture at the centre of their social and economic development.

At the same time, we wanted to provide those organisations with a suite of basic services, from training and promotion to planning support and launching the business.

The portal is divided into three sections, following the principles of human-centre design, to meet the needs of three types of user: culture consumers, whether tourists or members of the local community; students and others looking for information and to find out more about the culture of the Nuoro region; the Distretto Culturale’s member organisations and businesses, to give them visibility and support.

The Distretto section guides visitors through their discovery of the area: here, you will find the region’s villages and towns and all the cultural and natural attractions that make up the network, divided into categories and each accompanied by a short, simple description, written to be accessible and easy to use.

The content can also be navigated via our interactive map, which can be used with different filters.

For the most passionate tourists, we have developed four literary itineraries for the discovery of Nuoro and the Nuoro region, accompanied by Grazia Deledda, Salvatore Satta, Sebastiano Satta and the other writers who have made Nuoro the ‘Athens of Sardinia’.

The Culture section is focused on the people who have made the Nuoro region the most culturally exciting part of the island. We have taken special care to recognise the women who have been until now of marginal interest to specialists and the general public but who have been fundamental to the advancement of culture and social conditions in the Nuoro region.

At the DCN’s Museo Tattile Diffuso, you can explore three-dimensional replicas of a series of culturally significant objects preserved in the region’s museums and archaeological areas, in an innovative gallery that shall grow over time.

You can also navigate the Culture section using an interactive timeline that tells the story of the Nuoro region from its origins to the present day.

The Business section provides a brief introduction to the Distretto Culturale’s member organisations and offers a suite of resources for the entrepreneurial development of the DCN, from announcements for the most interesting competitions in the culture sector to the opportunities offered by M@ke in Nuoro, the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce’s fab lab, and Nennere, the DCN’s start-up competition for creating new businesses in the culture sector.

‘Visit, Learn, Grow’ is the meta-slogan for the combination of these three sections, clarifying the conceptual structure of the portal while also expressing the DCN’s hopes for all the site’s visitors.

Visitors who we wanted to make feel at home: every user can create a personal space where they can save their favourite content and create personalised itineraries.

The site is also the gateway to the DCN passport, which links more than thirty cultural sites, offering discounts and other advantages to visitors.

You will also find an up-to-date calendar of the region’s cultural events and a newsletter service for keeping you informed about the cultural life of the Nuoro region.

A special mention goes to the brilliant illustrations created by Daniela Spoto, which give the Distretto Culturale an original new look, lending tremendous added value to the portal.

Launched for the twentieth anniversary of the Distretto Culturale, the portal aims to be not so much a point of arrival as a point of departure: a constantly developing shared space that can adapt itself to best represent the area and meet its needs.
