Nuoro
Noddule
Description
The nuraghic complex of Noddule is located about thirteen kilometres from Nuoro.
It is an important archaeological area rich in monuments attesting to the continuous transformation of the natural environment to meet human needs in antiquity and spans much of Sardinia’s development in ancient times.
At the entrance to the site, you can admire a series of megalithic walls and circles, beyond which opens up the vast nuraghic settlement.
Here, you will find an impressive multilobed nuragh that stands more than ten metres tall. The main spaces of this structure have not yet been completely studied.
Near the nuragh, there are ancient rectangular huts dating to the latest period of the settlement, during the Roman age.
In the immediate vicinity, and closely linked to the settlement, there is a small Giants’ Tomb built with rows of carefully cut ashlars.
Inside the vast nuraghic settlement, there is a special sacred area: a sanctuary delimited by a large enclosure with various circular structures that contains an enormous, still-active nuraghic spring. Comprising a paved vestibule divided into two areas and featuring seats, steps and granite walls, it is unquestionably the most important monument in the area.
