Orune
Su Tempiesu
Description
This temple, discovered in 1953, is associated with the water cult practised during the nuraghic period in Sardinia.
Built of large blocks of basaltic stone and trachyte, it has a trapezoidal atrium with seating on the sides and niches for votive offerings on the walls.
The sacred spring’s tiered roof has a triangular gable and decorative monolithic arches. The vestibule has a curved wall with a little well for collecting water and numerous bronze votive offerings.
The excavation revealed three building phases and that the temple was used between the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age.
The archaeological site is managed by L.A.R.Co.
