Su Mulinu Vetzu
Description
This old water mill was built in the second half of the nineteenth century, right on the side of the mountain at an altitude of about 600 metres and along the course of the Rio Bisine, immersed in a pristine natural setting of oak and elder forests.
The Mulinu Vetzu is a Vitruvian mill with a large vertical overshot wheel that exploits the force and weight of the water that falls from above. The hydraulic wheel turns a wooden gear inside the stone structure, making the large millstones turn to grind the grain.
This old mill was still in use in the early twentieth century, but it was damaged in a flood in 1921 and abandoned.
It is now up and running again, thanks to a recent restoration.
