Nuoro
Casa Museo Grazia Deledda
Description
Inaugurated on 5 March 1983, the Museo Deleddiano is located in the childhood home of the Nuoro writer Grazia Deledda.
The current display highlights the complex tie between the writer and Nuoro, as well as Deledda’s personal and literary life following her move to Rome.
Deledda’s life story, the socio-cultural environment in Nuoro, the writer’s family and cultural life in Rome and the award of the Nobel Prize are told through photographs, documents and autobiographical writings.
The visitors’ path winds through all three floors of the home, which has a central stair, and then continues out in the courtyard and garden.
A room entirely devoted to the award of the Nobel Prize features two display cases containing the original certificate and medal.
There, visitors can listen to her acceptance speech, while a large screen presents photographs and video clips documenting her visit to Stockholm.
The study from her home in Rome, in Via Porto Maurizio, is displayed in a space that evokes the atmosphere of an early twentieth-century middle class interior.
In the second room on the ground floor, a special multimedia device makes it possible for the differently abled to visit the whole museum through images generated by positionable cameras installed in each of the rooms.
Cultural events are held during the summer in the small triangular courtyard and large inner courtyard, shaded by two ancient oaks. A series of benches and column bookcases filled with books by Grazie Deledda and other authors invite visitors to take a break and enjoy a good read.
