The picturesque village of Pratobello is just a few kilometres from Nuoro, in the municipality of Fonni, and surrounded by a flat expanse of green.

Its buildings are mostly in ruin and include a small church and a school, both of which are made of stone.

What makes this place unique is its fascinating history. In June 1969, the local populace staged a non-violent revolt to fight the construction of a military firing ground that would have stopped people from using their own land for farming and livestock.

The episode is known as the ‘Pratobello Revolt’ and left a permanent mark on the local community, as attested by the distinctive murals decorating the walls of the abandoned town and nearby Orgosolo.
