Description

Giuseppe Rachel (b. 1858, Cagliari–d. 1937, Nuoro) was an Italian composer, band conductor and flautist.

He came from a family of musicians originally from Parma and, after having led a band in Verona, returned to Sardinia where he was first flute in the orchestra of the Civic Theatre of Cagliari and Sassari.
Later, he moved to Tempio Pausania and then Nuoro, where he won a competition to become conductor of a band in 1906.

During this period, in about 1915, he became friends with the poet Salvatore Sini, and the two worked together on the music for the famous song A Diosa, better known as No Potho Reposare.

In Nuoro, he also taught singing and composed music for the piccolo. He directed a music ensemble called the Philharmonic Music Corps that had a singing section led by Tomaso Madrigali.
