Antonio Corriga

Description

Antonio Corriga (b. 1923, Atzara–d. 16 December 2011, Oristano) was an Italian painter.

He was influenced by the Spanish artists who frequented his hometown, Atzara. He studied at the Art Institute of Sassari and then in Florence, specialising in engraving, encouraged by Stanis Dessy, and earned his teaching qualification.

He devoted himself to painting, working in the areas of religion, portraiture, popular tradition and social protest. He received commissions for religious paintings and produced illustrations, labels and posters.

He was the director of I.S.O.L.A. and politically active.
In his final years, he was artistic director of the Pinacoteca Antonio Ortiz Echagüe Atzara, now called MaMa, and his works are found in various public and private collections.
